Snugglepot & Cuddlepie

Theatre Music

A new musical by John Clarke & Alan John
Adapted from a series of books by May Gibbs Director Neil Armfield

This is a big-hearted new musical about the littlest fellas in the pantheon of Australian legends, that unmistakeable pair of nuts, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.

Australia’s high mandarin of political satire, John Clarke, joined perennial Company B duo Neil Armfield and composer Alan John to stage a sprawling musical feast which confronted the big and small issues for both big and small Australians. A large cast of Company B’s finest recreated May Gibbs’ iconic world in all its squawking, brawny splendour.

It’s a baffling country for a young gumnut. The stinky old Banksia Men want the bush for themselves, gumnuts are being thrown overboard, Mrs Snake’s up to less good than usual, those weird human beings are lurking in the shadows, and who is this marvellous Ragged Blossom, newly floated down from the treetops?

Cast Holly Andrew, Ana Maria Belo, Simon Burke, Mitchell Butel, Darren Gilshenan, Joyon James, Andrew Koblar, Kris McQuade, James Millar, Lara Mulcahy, Tim Richards, Ed Wightman, Ursula Yovich
